Armed with a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, Bercaw transitioned into the outdoor industry, working as head of research and development then line director at Black Diamond Equipment. He then moved to Chums and Beyond Coastal where he spent five years in product development and marketing.
An east coast native, John grew up exploring the Potomac's Mather Gorge and Shenedoah National Park outside of Washington D.C., where he discovered climbing.
